Program at a Glance
The Electrical program is designed to prepare students for a career as an electrician. Students will learn to apply textbook theory to real-life applications through the assembly of actual working electrical systems. Coursework and field-related experience is designed to prepare students for apprenticeship opportunities.
Incoming freshmen students interested in this program will participate in the Exploratory Construction Cluster. Students will have the benefit of experiencing each of the following programs for one marking period to determine their primary program of study: Carpentry, Electricity and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC).
Eligible students earn college credits and/or industry valued credential(s): OSHA 10 certification and college credit.
What You Will Learn
Students will refer to the National Electrical Code book to complete all projects as they learn how to install switches, receptacles, lights, motors, etc. Students also learn how to make the necessary calculations to install, troubleshoot and repair wiring in both residential and commercial buildings. Emphasis is placed on safe wiring methods and personal safety in the workplace as students learn how to use tools and testers safely through a project-driven curriculum.
Career Pathways
Students are prepared for employment in a wide range of careers related to the trade. Students may also continue their education in a college, postsecondary program or union organization.
