Is Sussex County Technical School a public school?
Absolutely. In New Jersey, county vocational-technical schools are a county-wide shared service funded by the County Commissioners and state and federal aid. Every student who lives in a county is eligible to apply for admission to their county-operate vocational-technical school. In rare instances if a program is not available in that county vocational school, at the discretion of the local county, schools will accept applications from out-of-county students depending on availability.

Does Sussex County Technical School offer the same academic courses as traditional high schools?
Yes, Students who attend Sussex County Technical School must meet the graduation requirements set forth by the NJ Department of Education. Eligible students are able to enroll in dual enrollment courses earning both high school and college credit. We also offer a traditional range of offerings that include honors, college prep and resource level classes.

What is "share time"?
Sussex County Technical School offers share time programs allowing students from throughout the county the opportunity to take traditional academic courses such as math and language arts at their sending district, and spend the remainder of the school day at Sussex County Technical School enrolled in a Career and Technical Education Program.

Can my child go to college if they attend a vocational school?
Absolutely! Today’s county vocational-technical schools prepare students for college and careers. Statewide, more than 70 percent of county vocational-technical school graduates pursue post-secondary studies at colleges, universities or advanced technical schools. College admissions officers know about the high-quality education that our schools provide, and many of our graduates are accepted at prestigious and highly-competitive colleges and universities. Thanks to our schools’ partnerships with many colleges and universities, many of our students can jump-start their higher education by attending college classes or earning college credits while still in high school. This enriches their educational experiences, and can also reduce the time and cost of earning a college degree.

Why isn't there a program in a particular career field in my county, but is offered elsewhere in the state?
Because county vocational schools are governed by county boards of vocational education, they are able to cater to local workforce needs. Our schools insure their programs remain relevant by training students for jobs of today and tomorrow, with an emphasis on meeting local employment demands. A hospitality program in Cape May that operates its own student-run motel, or a marine academy along the Jersey shore are examples of programs that build on regional strengths and respond to workforce needs.

Does Sussex County Technical School offer sports and clubs/activities?
Yes, we are a member of the NJSIAA and offer a wide range of varsity/jv sports for both male and female students. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of clubs and activities, e.g. Outdoor Archery, Key Club, Drama Club, Ski Club and much more.
