Program at a Glance
Cosmetology students are fully prepared to successfully master the State of New Jersey Cosmetology/Hairstyling exam for licensing. The curriculum meets NJ State Cosmetology/Hairstyling licensing requirements.

What You Will Learn
Freshman year will focus on professional soft skills, shampooing, braiding, thermal styling, manicures and pedicures, hair removal and infection control. Sophomore year will focus on professional ethics, bacteriology, decontamination, hair, skin, nail diseases and disorders, anatomy and physiology, hair cutting, thermal styling, hair removal, skin care, manicuring and pedicuring and makeup application. Junior year will focus on elements of design, wet styling, permanent waving, chemical relaxing, hair coloring, hair pressing and one marking period of cosmetology clinic. Senior year will focus on advanced haircutting, barbering and shaving, NJ State Board rules and regulations, three days per week of cosmetology clinic and licensing examination. Each level of cosmetology curriculum builds upon the previous level of theory and practical instruction.

Career Pathways
Graduates of the program have gone on to become hair stylists, barbers, salon managers or salon proprietors. The field of product representation and marketing is also a worthwhile and energetic prospect. Qualified students may choose a concentration in one or more fields within the industry such as, hair coloring, makeup artistry, skin care specialist, or nail technician. Students may also continue their education in post-secondary placements to gain employment in massage therapy or the teaching profession.
