Exploratory Construction
Program at a Glance
The Construction Cluster enables incoming freshmen to explore the construction trades. Students will rotate through the following areas of study: Carpentry, Electrical, and Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC). Upon completing the exploratory rotation, students will declare their program of choice and major in that particular program of study.
What You Will Learn
During this exploratory year, students will be introduced to basic building materials, components, methods and career opportunities. Emphasis is placed on safety and the proper use of personal protective equipment. Students will also be introduced to green technologies and specific technology associated with each program.
Career Pathways
Students majoring in the HVAC program will have the benefit of acquired skills to pursue entry-level employment in the field. Students may also continue their education in college or a post-secondary program.
Students majoring in the Carpentry program may work in many areas within the construction industry. Students are prepared for entry-level employment in a wide range of careers related to the trade. Students may also continue their education in college or a post-secondary program.
Students majoring in the Electricity program are prepared for entry-level employment in a wide range of careers related to the trade.
Students may also continue their education in a college or a post-secondary program. Construction Trade students are presented with various post-secondary opportunities within the construction trades unions.
