Dear Sussex Tech Families and Students,
We would like to inform you about the upcoming Fall New Jersey Adaptive Field Testing that will take place at Sussex County Technical School on the following dates:
  • Monday, October 28th: English Language Arts (ELA) – All Grade 11 students
  • Wednesday, November 12th: English Language Arts (ELA) – All Grades 9 & 10 students
  • Thursday, November 13th: Mathematics – All Grade 9 students, and all students who took Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II during the 2024–2025 school year

About the Adaptive Field Test

The New Jersey Adaptive Field Test is a new type of assessment that adjusts the difficulty level of questions based on students’ responses. As students answer questions, the test adapts to better measure their individual skills and knowledge.
This field test serves two important purposes:
  1. To provide students and school staff with the opportunity to practice using the new Cambium platform that will be used for future state testing.
  2. To provide the New Jersey Department of Education with data on the validity and reliability of test questions and the overall testing experience.
Please note: This test does not count toward grades, graduation requirements, or school accountability, and schools will not receive individual student scores. The regular Spring 2026 state testing, which will include reportable student results, will be administered later in the school year.
For more information about the adaptive field test, please visit the New Jersey Department of Education’s Adaptive Assessment webpage by clicking here:

Schedule and Attendance Information

  • Non-testing students may arrive late if they have their own transportation.
  • These students must arrive by 9:55 AM and report to the cafeteria or gym.
  • Buses will run on their regular schedule.
  • Non-testing students who arrive on time will report to homeroom, then be directed to a supervised study hall until testing is complete.
We appreciate your cooperation as we participate in this statewide initiative. This field test allows our students and staff to become familiar with adaptive testing and the Cambium platform in preparation for future assessments.
