Dear Sussex Tech Staff and Community:
Welcome to the 2026-27 school year. On behalf of the board of education, I would like to take this opportunity to provide you with a few leadership updates.
Our superintendent search is well under way. We had an impressive response from interested candidates and have scheduled interviews with 11 of the original 27 applicants. We anticipate several interview rounds and hope to have a new superintendent in place early 2027 depending on the candidate’s current contract release date. Thank you all for your contributions to this search by your voluntary participation in the spring 2026 input group sessions.
The Board of Education is pleased to announce that Ms. Monica Rowland will be serving as the Interim Superintendent for Sussex County Technical School District effective September 1, 2026. She will serve in this capacity as we complete the search for our permanent Superintendent. In addition to overseeing all district operations, Ms. Rowland will examine ideas currently under consideration for implementation, making recommendations to the board and new superintendent for final approval and timeline implementation.
Ms. Rowland is a seasoned and recently retired administrator who brings a wealth of experience to our district and we are pleased to have her join our staff. A long-term Sussex County resident, Ms. Rowland is beginning her 35th year as an educator and has held many roles including teacher (high school science), Curriculum Coordinator, Assistant Principal, Principal, Acting Director of Special Services, and, for the last thirteen years, Superintendent of Schools. She has worked in districts in Sussex, Morris, Warren and Hunterdon counties and most recently served as Interim Superintendent for the Hardyston School District. Her extensive background as an educational leader will be invaluable to our school community.
The Board would like to thank our outgoing Interim Superintendent, Mr. Chris Carrubba, for his time with us since beginning last April. We wish him well in his next endeavor. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Rowland to our district as Sussex Tech continues to look to great things in the future of our school!
